Writing on a Notebook

"We make the choice, moment by moment, to be fully here. Attending to our present-moment mind and body is a way of being tender toward self, others and the world. This quality of attention is inherent in our ability to love"
- Pema Chodron

My name is Aurela, Ela for short. I am a registered Social Worker with the OCSWSSW (Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers). I hold an undergraduate degree in psychology from York University and a masters degree in social work from the University of Windsor.

I am a dedicated therapist, focused on delivering mental health and trauma therapy. A combination of personal and professional experiences led me to dive deep into understanding and deepening my training in trauma therapy. As such, in the last year I became certified as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP). SE is a body- oriented approach to releasing traumatic stress from the body, developed by Dr. Peter Levine. I also have attended workshops and trainings in other modalities such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TFCBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

My therapeutic approach is collaborative, reflective and compassionate.

The most rewarding aspect of my work is to witness people's capacity to  transform their lives and in the process reclaim and embody their authentic self. Through my experiences, I continue to learn about struggle and strength, and what it means to have courage, determination and resiliency to triumph. And, I am committed to meeting clients where they are and accompany them to where they want to go.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, being in nature, reading and journaling. Connecting with myself, others, and our earth is a way I invite goodness, peace and joy into my life. And I feel confident that you can too. I look forward to connecting with you.
